Best Smartwatch 2018

Best Smartwatch 2018: The 9 best smartwatches for style, fitness and function.

Since Apple released its original Apple Watch, every company under the sun has been racing to bring such a product to market.
These have included entries from big-name players in the fitness market, such as Fitbit with its latest Fitbit Versa, to traditional watchmakers such as the Fossil Group.
While the breadth of choice is excellent in some ways, in others it makes it far more difficult to come to a decision over which will right for your specific needs.
If you’re considering an Android Wear watch, it’s worth looking to see if it will receive the Android Wear 2.0 update. You can review which watches will be updated in this article. Android Wear 2.0 brings important and useful updates, including Google’s smart assistant and support for standalone apps that don’t require a companion on your smartphone – just as you see on watchOS 3 on the Apple Watch.

For fitness enthusiasts, many smartwatches now feature added sensors such as GPS and heart rate monitors, making them a great companion on your next workout.
Of course, with more sensors comes faster battery drain. As a result many of the more feature-packed smartwatches will have to include a physically larger battery; otherwise, they’ll struggle to see you through an entire day. These can lead to rather cumbersome timepieces on your wrist.
Still confused? Don’t worry, we’re here to help. Below you’ll find a comprehensive list of the best smartwatches currently available, all of which have been put through rigorous testing by our reviewers.
Recent smartwatches
First up, the Samsung Gear Sport is a smaller take on the Samsung Gear S3, packing in the same Tizen operating system on top of fitness credentials. Considering the size of the Gear S3 was one of our complaints, this could be a smartwatch to keep an eye on.
Then there’s the Fitbit Ionic, which can be considered Fitbit’s first true smartwatch. Having acquired Pebble, Fitbit has incorporated much of its know-how into Fitbit OS, its custom operating system. The best part of the Ionic is its claimed 4+ days battery life, which is exceptional.
Unfortunately, it comes up a little short on the smartwatch front, with an app store that’s rather light on content. Things are gradually improving since launch, though, so we’re hoping to see more must have apps in the near future. Fitbit also announced that support for the Deezer music streaming service is on the horizon, so that’s worth keeping an eye on if you’re a subscriber.
Upcoming smartwatches
Fitbit is heavily expected to launch a new smartwatch for 2018, following in the footsteps of last year’s Fitbit Ionic. Currently, the Ionic lacks the mass market appeal of a device like the Apple Watch, and this is something Fitbit is looking to rectify with its new offering, thanks to a more universally appealing design. Hopefully the new smartwatch will bring with it a new wave of apps for Fitbit OS, as this was another area of improvement needed for the Ionic.
The Apple Watch 4 is also no doubt on the horizon and all signs point to even more emphasis on its health and exercise tracking. We don’t expect to see this until the last quarter of the year, however.
We’ve listed the best smartwatches currently available in the list below catering to different needs but be sure to check out the full reviews to help you make the right decision.
